I was supposed to be walking the South Downs Way at the moment

May 28, 2020 08:36

Today I should have been walking the 18 miles between Upper Beeding and Lewes - and then resting on Friday, as 18 miles would have broken my daily walking record. When it became obvious back in March that the holiday wasn't going to happen, I felt fairly philosophical about it, but once we got within a week of last Thursday, when I was due to start ( Read more... )

Yeah, getting all the yarn you need seems to be a problem right now. I don't know if they're having trouble with their suppliers, or if everyone is just going yarn crazy, but I've had to find the yarn I need for a project from more than one place. Interesting to see what colors you went with with the stole.

I really liked Mad Men during its initial run. It did get a bit soap opera-y at times, but, all in all, I found it entertaining.

It's a bit of both with the yarn. At least here in Canada. I have a friend who owns a yarn shop and she's doing a booming business even though the store it closed to the public. She's had to get her father to come in several times a week to help her box up orders to get them out in a timely fashion. From what she has told me the yarn is available, though a few smaller, hand died manufacturers are stretched, it's getting it anywhere. She's shared some hilarious stories about tracking packages of yarns and offering to go fetch them herself at two close by airports but nope, they just sit lingering in the warehouse or in one case on a truck.

Well done tracking down all the yarn you needed. Let's hope it stays cool enough for knitting for a while yet.

For the stole, I went with the blue colours from the first picture. I should get it finished by tomorrow, so will post a photo soon.

I'm glad to hear Mad Men keeps up the quality. It should keep me going through the next knitting project, whatever that turns out to be.

Good to hear from you. We were getting mildly concerned. I kept meaning to email and Sharon and I both suggested giving you a call but neither or us are doing well and motivation is lacking when it comes to anything. I owe so many emails, it's just sad ( ... )

I'm sorry I got you guys worried. I hadn't realised how much time had passed since I last got in touch. I'm even sorrier to hear you aren't doing well. I'll aim to keep in touch more often, and I won't expect a reply.

I used kidsilk haze for the stole, in the colours from the first photo. The pattern also includes beads (at least 250 of them!) but I decided not to bother with those. LoveCraft didn't have any in stock, and from what i gather, beads are a huge faff. Is that the Marion Melchior butterfly shawl? That looks absolutely lovely. Go for it!

I like the idea of your friend having an imaginary trip to Vegas. That convention must be great fun, especially if you already have friends there.

My next booked holiday is a week of walking in Somerset at the end of September. That doesn't seem impossible, if the relevant hotels and B&Bs are open and still in business then. However, I'm assuming I won't be able to book a proper holiday before then - there will be too much competition, apart from anything else! - so planning to use my ( ... )
