frick. this election thing is stressing me out. i just glanced at my friends' page to remind myself that i'm not the only one stressing over it. every time i've seen one of the other foreign teachers today, they've yelled out to me the status of the election so far. i kinda suck in that (

wow, such good healthy questions... a response: as my friend, sr. mary says to me every time she talks to me "love the questions and live into the answers." it is in God's hands, afterall, right? mmmm...
my experience in south africa was VERY self-defining for me. i explored new lifestyles and cultures and realized what i valued most. in that realization, i came to realize what i want most in life- and least for that time.. it certainly continues to evolve, however. i think it is impossible to not be a symbol of where you are from and (what you often want to resist about that place) and not have to reconsider who you really are....
here in California i am the midwesterner, the iowan farm-girl hick. (what a label!) in south africa i was the rich american white girl. so, what was i at home? is that my truest self? perhaps. probably not.
