This may just be the best John/Rodney I've ever read. Um. I buy into all the ways these two miscommunicate for you, lock stock and little piglet. And I like all the sensory detail, I like the harsh nonslick reality of your Atlantis winters, I like Ronon who bangs his head into lockers, I like the handknit sweaters and the increasingly obsolete meetings. Most of all, I like that this is love I recognise -- difficult, mutable, fallible, incredible. Not exactly voluntary.

i can imagine that this is who john is hiding behind his expressions, which are so open in some ways but really so closed in many others. i love the mechanics of a story like this, where there's miscommunication but it never feels forced for the sake of the plot, but rather both stupid and painful because it's something that's so easy to do.

in short: this is so excellent, thank you for writing it.

It took me roughly three weeks of writing bad paragraphs and deleting them to get there [there was this whole digression where Zelenka's baby had the ATA Gene and all the babies born that spring had the ATA gene and everyone learned to hope again or some kind of bullshit that was SO TERRIBLE that I hide my face in shame.] so, yes! It's good to hear.
