After quickly doing stuff on the computer, like checking email, sorting out the week's To-Do list and reading FB, LJ & DW, I crossed my fingers and set it going to update to Windows 11. Rather than stare at the screen as it slowly downloaded the software and began the install, I went out and washed the car. I'd taken it to the self-service car wash ( Read more... )

I’m glad the Microsoft update didn’t cause any problems. I used to get so frustrated with updates as my old laptop always seemed to have issues afterwards. I switched to a Mac last year and it never seems to have any problems with anything *loves*

Our computers are still relatively new, but I don't recall ever buying a new computer due to problems with updates. It's usually signs of failure like running extreely slowly because the hard drive is wearing out or the on/off switch becoming faulty. I did, however, recently buy a new tablet because various up dates to apps meant they would no longer run on the older version of Android. I bought my current phone because the old one didn't have enough memory to cope with app updates.

My printer does the same thing. I hadn't even realized that Windows 11 was out. My work desktop computer is still on some earlier version of Windows, so I can't even install Office 365 on it; I was going to do it on this personal laptop instead, but the keyboard's gone wonky. (If I don't correct it,t thiengs I ype come out like his witih exra letters added and lots of missing ts, and evn worse.) So I'm up in the air between upgrading this laptop and maybe getting a new one.

I don't know how long you've had your computer, but we seem to need to replace ours after about 7 years. At that point either the hardware starts to fail or the computer starts to struggle with new versions of software due to lack of memory or processing power.

This laptop is five years old, and I've already had to replace the hard drive. It seems okay other than the keyboard; the new hard drive is only one-third full. I suppose I should just get an external keyboard, if I can find one I like.

However, since I need to install Office 365 for work soon, I'll get a good idea of whether the RAM is still adequate. I guess that will be a good test.

It's great that you updated to Windows 11 with no issues. Updating one's computer with a new operating system is a stressful undertaking.

I knew that my husband hadn't had any problems. Our computers are fairly new and are more or less identical, so I expected the upgrade to be problem free. My only worry was that some of the ancient programs that I still use would stop working, but everything seems fine.
