…that made you fall in love with a show

Babylon 5, season 1. The opening credits. (Yes, they had me at "Hello").

"It was the dawn of the third age of mankind, ten years after the Earth-Minbari War.

The Babylon Project was a dream given form. Its goal: to prevent another war, by creating a place where humans and aliens can work out their differences ( Read more... )

thanks, Helen, recognized a lot of moments there, Babylon 5, got me at hello, indeed, and DS9 and Farscape, of all those, I think Farscape is the closest to my heart and that surprises me, who know?
but the most breath taking? that's Babylon 5

IMHO, DS9 was the best written Trek series; maybe it's because it all took place on a station? The characters got to know their neighbours on a different level than what happened on the other series, they got to see the consequences of their actions. And the characters grew--Kira, going from terrorist to leader, Julian, from an overeager kid to a burned-out doctor, Sisko, embracing his role as a religious icon...

Farscape... Guh, Farcape. :)

And yes, Babylon 5 was breathtaking. The beauty of the writing, the fall of Londo, the rise of humanity, G'Kar's transformation... I tend to consider it as the best series, ever.

This? Totally awesome meme. I'm all warm and fuzzy at your moments :)
But we shall save particular love for Sam explaining the census, Lee all battered and covered in his father's blood, and Lie to Me.

Also - you're kinda making me want to watch Babylon 5...

Babylon 5 is such a good series. There are a few not so good episodes, but the majority are gold. The utterly worked out, one hand on the plot line, continuity intactness that I can't remember ever seeing before or since.

I'd highly recommend it!

:) I keep being told that. And the idea of an planned and pre-plotted narrative arc is sooo very appealing. My problem is mostly the price, but even on that point I'm starting to sway. 5 whole seasons of brand new sci-fi just seems worth not being able to buy anything else for six months! Or eat.

Awesome icon!

Babylon 5 would have been even better if it hadn't been cancelled at the end of season 4, only to be picked for another year by another network. The writers tried to tie all loose ends in season 4, leaving little to deal with in season 5. It works if you think of S1 as the prologue, and S5 as the epilogue, though.

But it's very obvious, when you watch it, that Strazincksy had it all planned out. In fact, you should watch the series twice; that way, you can see in early episodes how the clues about the future were already all laid out. (you learn by episode 4 how one of the characters is going to die, yet you're still surprised when it happens, because the context has changed so much, and because in the meantime, you got involved in that character's storyline. Even though you always knew it was coming, you're still surprised when it does, if you see what I mean)

And believe me, the writing is absolutely wonderful.

Some quotes. Obviously spoilery.

That speech from The President in the church is one of my favorite all time moments on TV - and that's saying something.
Sigh - I own that show too - and it's another thing I miss.

I know! It was so very powerful and gut-wrenching (as was the following scene where Dolores tells him, "God didn't crash my car. Stop using me as an excuse." And of course, the last sequences of the ep, on Brothers in Arms, made me both cry and cheer.

This week's ep of Studio 60 had Allison Janney and Timothy Busfield working together again. Oh, how I loved them too.
Brothers in Arms was the perfect choice of song as well as title.

Gah, that scene where Danny offers CJ a fish is one of my favourties ever... It was so damn funny. :)

Is it okay that I could only relate to the OC stuff?
Yeah - I'm that boring.
Hey, I've never been a Marissa fan (hee-no kidding) but that scene where Ryan realizes she's dead?
To die for! (actually/originally-- no pun intended!)

Heee. It was a heartbreaking moment; I wasn't a huge fan of her by that time, but I knew what she meant to Ryan and how hard he was going to take her death, after everything that happened.

(And you're not boring. I'm the one who spends way too much time in front of her TV.)

wow. Don't think I could do that... recall so much. I can barely remember the books I read.

Well, I probably couldn't do it for books either--there are just too many of them. :) But TV shows you fall in love with enough to hunt down quotes and pics on the net are few and far between, aren't they?
