Bien visqueux...

Bonjour. I'm surprised to see you. I should say "hi" since I don't think you've been more MIA than not for many months- or maybe it's me.

Hope all is well.

Yeah, I'm not that active on LJ! I hope you're okay!
I've updated and finished 'Wasted" a couple of months ago.
I wrote a book that's gonna be published in France in January (it was quite a surprised to find a publisher, I have to say. I wrote the book and sent it to 2 French publishers and my favorite one says "okay, we're interested") and it took me so much time!
And I'm always fake-working (the book is about my work and all the weirdness in it!).
Take care!

Ouch. Did I tell you that my archaic 7-year-old 'puter at home bit the dust about a month ago? That was a fun week. A geek built a new one to bypass the dreaded Vista nemesis and such, but it's never an easy process. Even installing some of the programs, like Microsoft Office, involved a lengthy process.

I wish you much better luck! You're far more adept at the tech aspects than I am. That has to help... except you also know enough to be more frustrated.

Oh, lord. Vista... Yeah, I'll be very clear when I buy the new computer. I still have an XP license, and I fully intend to keep using it.

I had Vista on the laptop I bought a year ago, and it was hell. Truly.

And I'm not sure I'm much more adept with the tech issues than you are. Mostly, all I do is find a setup program and click. Everything else is pretty much magic for me...

See, that is where a Mac comes in very useful. When I got my new laptop a few months ago when the motherboard was dying in my old one, I just plugged in my Time Machine and it transferred everything over without any hassles. It did take about a day though as there was a lot to transfer.

Good luck!

I have XP on my PC laptop and find it a hassle compared to my nice shiny Leopard OS.

One day, when I have enough money, I'll buy a Mac. But right now, they're a bit out of my price range (and I'm worried about compatibility, too. Does Mac read Windows files?)

Darn! Is your 'puter acting up? This isn't the one you reinstalled Linux, is it? Shutting down every five minutes? That can't be good... *pout*

Yup, my old (well, 3 1/2 years) desktop is being annoying (only when I'm using some programs, but they're programs I use a lot, so....)

Linux is on the laptop (which was bought just so I could experiment a bit with Linux, actually), and that is still running fine.

Unfortunately, there are some programs I use on Windows that I can't install with wine, and whose Linux equivalents I can't figure out...

Ooh, a new computer, how exciting! I just recently got a new one myself (my dad did all the work, I just sat next to him, biting my nails and worrying I was going to lose all my files) and I love it. Good luck with yours!

Waiting to see if everything will work fine is so very unnerving...

Thanks! I hope your new 'puter brings you much joy!

Gosh, I'm sorry. I'm considering the same thing too as my HD had some serious problems of the not starting up kind on Sunday. I'm on a friend's borrowed one right now but yes, with the shutting down. Sigh.

Let us know which kind you buy!

I'm looking for a desktop, so the plan is to go to the guy at the computer store and say, "I need this, this and this, what can you do?" :)
Good luck to you as well! I hate, hate, *hate* it when a computer starts misbehaving...
