So, here's the deal.

I'm looking for a laptop/notebook. Ideally, it needs to be cheap (no more than 600 euros, since it's a second computer and I'm not planning on doing anything too exotic with it anyway).

Those of you who have a laptop, which model is it? Are you happy with it?

I got myself the Dell Inspiron 1520 last September and it's awesome, so far I love it and it would be perfect - if it didn't have Vista installed. But that's a problem with a solution, isn't it?

You can find the latest model (Inspiron 1525) here http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspnnb_1525?c=be&cs=bedhs1&l=nl&s=dhs

Oh, my.

Yes, very pretty. :)

(And yeah, one of my masterplans is to install Linux in dual boot... at least at first. Then, if I like Linux, maybe get rid of Windows altogether... That's why I want a notebook, actually. I don't want to experiment that way with my "main" computer, but I do want to play with Linux).

Thanks, val!

Thanks. :)

(Btw, if I may ask, is it worth it to buy the extended guarantee?)

I have a MacBook which I absolutely adore - but I know they're expensive in comparison to PCs. I've always been a 'Mac' person though so don't like or use PCs if I can avoid it.

How I understand you. If I was a little richer (or, you know, a little more able to save money for when I need it), I'd be buying Macs too. :)

They're so *beautiful.* On top of being efficient, I mean...

A-book?

Acer... So far as I can tell from reading customer's advice on the net, half their customers seem happy and the other half is pissed as hell because their notebook melted and/or started a fire. Of course, it might also depend on where you buy it....

Yes, Vista... That's the only thing I have a problem with, with the notebook I just ordered from Dell. You don't really have a choice which OS they install. Of course, they now build notebooks with Linux installed right away, but it seems that they're more expensive than the Windows ones, and they tweaked the Linux code so it's less stable than it should be.

Sigh.

The stuff we worry about. :)

But thanks for the recs!

Heh, I wouldn't call myself decisive. I've been thinking about it for weeks. It went from wanting an eee PC to wanting an ACER, an Asus, and so on.

I finally settled on a Dell because I was damn tired of it. :D
