when fandoms collide (or, The OC, 3x03)

Two things about The Cold Turkey.1. The last scene, with Julie asking Ryan to tell her about Marissa, just about killed me dead. And Ryan's smile and "I thought she was hot. Very hot." is just... Well ( Read more... )

I checked on TV.com and apparently, it was J.J. Philbin. The mind boggles.

I'm so with you on that last scene. It should have been longer. He was hot when he said she was hot. Sigh.
There are so many references that we miss even on multiple viewings. That line about Starbuck is particularly memorable for me, as I was an old BSG fan.

Hee, I'm not sure I even heard it the first time around. Yeah, that's the beauty of it; you can always find something new to enjoy, even after several re-watches.

LOL I watched a few episodes of OC (never really got into it though) and I can totally see Seth saying that *g*

The OC was an acquired taste (I think I fell in love with the show when, in S1, Marissa told Ryan "I love you," and he got the most perfect deer-in-the-headlight expression on his face and stammered, "Thank you." Heh).

Seth was, on occasion, funny. :)

There were some special moments and aspects at the end of the episode, and what resonated with me was that Sandy and EVEN KIRSTEN (The Glacial and Distant), were standing at a respecful, but available place just in case. There was that sense that they didn't trust Julie- and they shouldn't- and that someone might intervene should she upset Ryan, or should Ryan indicate some need. I wish we'd seen that explored in more detail, even afterwards. That was a wonderful inclusive shot, but TPTB never did get prioritizing or pacing down, did they?

Still, some wonderful expressions from Ben to offer insights into Ryan, especially as he characteristically told Julie what she wanted to hear and was what she needed him to be, even if she couldn't begin to scrape the surface and say what she needed to make good with him.

A rare moment of being on the same page. Mark that calendar! ; )

Oh, and it was very special, because it was so well acted, and because any show of true parental behavior and undeniable concern directly for Ryan was so rare and all the more precious. He wasn't an interloper or some undefined presence passing through a room or through lives here, there was a real sense of connectivity and investment. Oh to have seen more of that, and this taken a step further too...

Loved the Cold Turkey too. I was just thinking about it today, that bit where Ryan says he's going to take the dare and Sandy says he trusts him. Amidst his despair that must have been pretty great for Ryan to hear. Loved the last scene so much too. Have no idea about BSG but if you think it's awesome then it must have been.

Well, not awesome, but definitely funny. :)

Yes, I love the "dare" line as well as Sandy's reply (and how Sandy checks out both Ryan and Volchok when they step out of the motel room).

Oh, and Ryan's chilling smile when he tells Sandy, "I'm not angry. I just wish he was dead, that's all."
