Are they idiots? They do realise that this will further lead to a more corporate dominated world with fewer environmental regulations and relaxed workers rights? Hello distopian cyperpunk-like future...

I think they do realise that, and that's why the Bush-appointed supreme court justices voted that way. Environmental regulations are seen as nothing but impediments by them. Bush accomplished his final coup without firing a shot, without extending the 8-year presidential term limit, and with hardly anyone knowing this measure was being voted on. Finely executed piece of work.

I'm not sure which is more scary, that they very likely know what they are doing, or that they are (not likely) naive enough to see the negative ramifications of their actions.
