I think Sylar was able to kill Eden because of his powers. His powers appear to be more cerebral than the others. He is able to see how things work, so probably figured out how the cell neutralized his stolen abilities. Mr. Bennett pretty much cataloged and has an understanding of every known and unknown hero out there, so he probably created a cell suited to hold Sylar. I think the Haitian is the only power leech in the series. He's usually around Bennett when he encounters other heroes.
