This place is called Discedo. As for why you're here and who is responsible, I cannot say. Common belief is that it's the fault of the scientists.

Ah, well, the falling ash and the darkness point to a volcano somewhere. There's no heat so I doubt it's nearby...

I could be wrong, though. But has Discedo always been populated by these- things?
