Last? Last? No, Orion shouldn't have been coming in last... It was a long time ago, it's not like it mattered, no, not at all.

Orion tilted his head and said, with a shaky smile, "Well it's not like your aim was any better, dude." He could just remember seeing his arrow and Apollo's arrow mirrored on both sides of the target, some distance away from the bullseye.

But cockily, he said back, "But hey, if you want to make up for our aim before, nows a perfect chance!", as he glanced at the targets. They seemed closer than they actually were. Easier to hit...

This was going to be an interesting day

Standing in the midst of the trees, herself being out of eye's view, Artemis continued to watch the two boys. Her bow had come off of her shoulder, and she was now polishing it carefully with a cloth out of her pocket. She remembered that for her and Apollo's birthday, both her brother and Orion bought her bows. Very nice bows, in fact. However, the competition between them had seemed too strong to pick between the both. And besides, she preferred her own handmade bow over any other one. It was much too special to her to not use it ( ... )

Apollo had his ever calm look on his face, his eyes only portraying his emotion. They were lit with a heavy heat of determination and anger. Hearing anything that posed a threat to his skills with the bow always somehow made his blood boil. Like it was in his entire being to always be proclaimed (alongside his sister) as the best marksman. Be it some hidden pride that Apollo had when he merely gave a feral smirk at Orion in response to the man’s snaky choice of words. Orion would see just how much Apollo had improved in the craft.

As a threat, Apollo lifted his red recurve and with the speed of someone highly practiced pulled a blunt arrow from his stash. His fingers were quick, agile. He snapped the arrow back and let it fly through the air, glinting in the bright sun. In flew a mere centimetre away from Orion’s ear.

There was a loud clack of the arrow hitting dead on one of the tree trunks.

Birds flew out behind the branches as a loud noise echoed throughout the trees. Artemis had let the little bird on her finger fly off in surprise as she poked her head around the tree she stood behind, spotting Apollo, bow drawn without an arrow. Could it be that the arrow was the cause of the disturbance to the natural forest life? They could obviously see her now that she was observing the other side of the tree, an arrow sticking straight out of it ( ... )

Orion was stunned. He didn't think Apollo had gotten that much better, but lo and behold, his arrow went zooming straight past his ear, the wind of the thing shifting the hair on his head slightly. He also heard a faint "thud" only a second later, indicating the arrow had reached Apollo's target in the first place. Yes, they had both improved quite a lot since their childhood ( ... )
