I spent quite a few years working for Borders.  Yup, that Borders, the bookstore that started off as awesomesauce and slowly fell apart until complete and total bankruptcy.  In it's 'golden years' Borders was a fantastic company to work for and one of the best jobs you could have in the company was to be a trainer.  They were opening stores at an ( Read more... )

I really enjoyed reading this -- it was a great anecdote. I laughed at the idea of your cat being mean only to you! I sometimes think that book stores should come with store cats.

I was thinking about herpes and Vegas before reading that epically perfect line. I love that everyone backed away in a flash, too. That's pretty hilarious. Poor Hazel! I named my chinchilla Hazel when I was a kid. And I know what it's like to be madly in love with a cat that is just yours. I picked out my sweet Homer kitty all by myself, and he was so amazing. Now my child is named Homer after that cat. (Which, that idea's credit needs to go 100% to my husband, who is awesome.) I'm glad you got 14 years with her and had a lot of awesome adventures together!

Wow, I did not know there was a feline form of herpes, nor that it would be kind of like having a recurrent cold with side effects that must have just freaked the cat out. :(
