Your description of the plot of a VC Andrews book (never read one) sounds like a Mad Lib. It's very tempting... ;)

I read an unabridged interview with her--just to get some insight (she's been dead for 25 years). Turns out she's was a fairly normal person who had a fairly normal life that had an overactive imagination. I kinda get the feeling that she had fun messing with people's heads.

Still--her stories are awful.
