Ugh. I hate that. My mom gave us a g.c. to some restaurant in Boston for Christmas '04 and I completely lost it. Couldn't find it anywhere. Finally had to tell her we'd lost it.
Then, a few weeks ago, I found it when we were putting A's new room together. Apparently I had tucked it in a book she'd been given for Christmas, and completely forgot about it.
After an incident in which a gift certificate to our favorite restaurant went through the wash in greybar's shirt pocket, I immediately became the holder of all gift certificates/cards in the house. Upon opening, they go straight into the wallet for future use. Not that this helps you now. :)
I'm sorry to hear you lost it - maybe you'll find it like amymarr in a few years and it'll be a gift all over again!
