If your looking for Freeze dried mealworms, Flukers or Brisky's. Brisky's might be cheaper. I think its briskys.com or something like that.

Your hedgie can also eat LIVE mealworms... Those ususally run for about $5 for 100 in a cup. Petco has them for sure. Make sure you don't get "super worms"

Unfortunately most wheels out there you will have to replace every two years or so. The metal ones get rusty and squeek, and the plastic start to "bend" in the bottom from the hedgie weight.

Just be sure to get a solid bottom wheel and a BIG one

Cool thanks! I'm going to Petco today although I'd rather not give them my business (long story). I will definitely check out Brisky's as well.

Would you suggest metal or plastic? I've read that you can *oil* the metal ones with veggie oil as that wouldn't be harmful to the hedgie.

Please do go into your Petco story when you have a chance or email me at fallenangel@kidsloveguns.com because I would really like to hear it.

I have been considering working there and if there is something ..amiss.. then I certaintly do not want to be a part of it! Can never be too sure about pet stores... :(

Good luck with your new ball of quills!

You should totally get live meal worms... the freeze dried ones don't have much to offer.

I found a kick-ass wheel at Petsmart for $13.
No spokes at all, awesome.
Mealies are like $3 or so, I can't remember. I think freeze-dried is the way to go these days, and $8 isn't too bad.

Sweet! I saw that wheel on their website but I wasn't sure if it would be suitable. I'll go check it out at my local store.

Why not raise your own. I have been raising mealworms for a long time for my pet toads and frogs. I have adored toads since I was a small child.Get a plastic garbage can, Put in a a couple of packages of wheat bran, Put in a hundred mealworms that you bought at the pet store. Keep them fed with cabbge leaves, lettuce leaves and banana peels, etc, Do not feed them to anthing until tthe colony gets established. it will not be long. Then you will have an ongoing supply of the little wigglies for your hedgie or anything else that eats them.

Pit a cloth or screen over the top to make sure that the adults do not escape. This is not a problem if they always have enough to eat. The adults are beetles. Do not feed the beetles to anything as they produce more mealworms.

I took the trouble to write this because you will be surprised at just how the money flys away buying mealworms. Hell you could even start selling them.
