I apologize for being such a posting fiend. I have more questions. I am trying to amass them in one post and not to clog up your LJ space.

1. quilling and adult personality--do their personalities really change?

2. hamster balls--I take it that those are considered to be a bad idea?

3. nail-clipping--please don't take my question the wrong way, but ( Read more... )

hygiene: nail clipping, behavior: quilling

Clipping nails is so that they don't curl under and hurt the pads of the feet. Also so that they don't get caught in loops of fabric or small spaces and hurt toes. We do ours once a month or so after bathtime when the nails are soft.

Quilling: Depends. Our girls didn't change all that much, but it depends on the hedgie and the personality.

hampster ball: We did it once when Nu was a baby, she curled up and went to sleep. But I have read that it is bad for their backs and if they poo it makes a huge mess.

Spike's Delite: Both breeders of our girls said "no way!" it does not have good nutrition for them, we use a mix of 3 kinds of catfood (Royal Canin 37 lite, Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul Light, and Innova Light)

1. Quilling for a hedgie is like a baby teething. It makes them grumpy but should be short lived once the quilling is finished. I don't imagine it would change their personality for the worst. All hedgies go through it ( ... )

Hey! On a mod note a lot of these questions can be found when you search the tags! So please try to check there. We appreciate you trying to condense your post but they need to be condensed just a liiiitle more :) So try the tags out a bit! We worked pretty hard to tag them all! :P Just a few months ago there was a post about Spikes Delight food, it is pretty looked down upon around here, as are most(all) commercial hedgeghog foods. There is a PDF of all the HC approved cat/dog foods for hedgehogs floating around, and I will post that so it is in the tags of diet etc. This is a very well thought out post about hedgehog nutrition, and there are quite a few links that will be interesting to you!

thanks! and by NO means hesitate to post if you have a question you cant find in the tags:) and pictures of course!

ok, cool. i've been reading old posts though. in fact, today i wrote a comment to an entry from 2005, without realizing that it dated back to 2005.
