Howdy! What a cute little girl! I love the nom nom nom picture :D

You might want to check out the things toxic to hedgehogs list on Chins and Quills, however (a great site to browse!)... hedgies shouldn't eat raisins (if that's what they are).

Best of luck with the new pincushion!

CURSES!!! the damn pet shop i got her at, which had all sorts of random animals like skunks, chinchillas, ferrets, and the like, they told me she could have a raisin a week and that sunflower seeds were ok.

i am now going to go kick someone in the balls!

thanks for the heads up!

No problem! They're exotic pets, so a lot is still unknown, and you learn as you go :D

Yep. Raisins are toxic, and sunflower seeds are extremely fatty. If those are her treats -- and not her diet -- consider giving her a mealworm or two instead. Mealies are fatty, so you can't give too many, but they're also really nutritious.
(And out of curiousity, just because pet stores are usually wrong about this, you're not feeding her hedgehog food, are you?)

Hedgehog feet are like human feet, and there have been plenty of cases where they'd actually run so hard that they bleed on their wheels. Sandpaper would hurt their toes, and probably result in less wheeling. Why not just clip her nails?

i totally didnt know they were toxic! my poor baby! i am going to kick that pet store lady's ass!

i am feeding her this hard food that looks like cat food that i got from a store that sells sugar gliders and hedgies, something like Spike's Delight. mostly i feed her broccoli slaw (hence her name brawklee), lil bits of apricot once a week, shredded carrots, and an assortment of other raw veggies i get from Sweet Tomatoes salad buffet restaurant, and the occassional piece of egg or mealworm. in the beginning i did have that generic box with the drawn hedgie on it that says Hedgie Food on it, but it just looked like dust to me so i stopped feeding her that.

I used to do this back when I had a hedgehog/it was legal to own them in Pennsylvania. The trick is to get the hedgie used to you having his/her feet touched. So, while you play, just touch those little feet as much as you can.

Gosh, I wish I could get another hedgehog. One of the very best animals I ever worked with.
