I somehow survived my 2nd degree brown belt test yesterday night. I feel lousy, but dammit, I survived! Lessons learned: Never, ever drink coffee before a belt test.
Eating rice vineagar (just a skosh) before you exert yourself, will prevent lactic acid from building up, which increases endurance. So maybe a little pickled veggies prior, for your 1st-dan black belt. (^-^)b
Still have to make it past my 1st-degree brown belt test 'fore I can test for black belt. But I'll keep that in mind. But uh... izzere another source of of rice vinegar? Veggies I can handle. Pickled veggies sound... unappetizing.
If you can find it (and I'm pretty sure you can in DC/NoVA), look for Chinese black vineagar as well -- that was a big hit in Japan a few years ago for the nutrient content above clear vineagars. They mix it in smoothie drinks for the health benefit.
In my experiences with dieting, apple cider vineagar does much the same thing -- so try it, see if it works for kenshi. I do know that apple cider vineagar does not inhibit the liver from its role in metabolism, which regular vineagars do to some extent... they encourage the growth of candida, which produces toxic acetaldehyde, putting the liver in 'filter mode' rather than 'fat burn mode'. ;)

Walk away under your own power after the test is over: pass.

(P.S. I shall never admit to having said that.)
