Hey, I can go back and read spoiler posts now!

Good points, all. I think one of the reasons that I could have done without most of the pirate council involves much of what you say here.

Did you notice, regarding the small pirate who got jolted by the big gun, that he was using it in the final battle sequence without getting blasted (I guess he'd learned how to brace himself)? I noticed that because I'd felt bad for him in the first place. I assume the idea was that they could get their laugh, but then tried to earn it with a payoff of sorts.

I actually liked the idea of Tia being a sea goddess, I just didn't think they knew how to handle it. Blew some good potential there.
