Sounds like an excellent trip! I'm glad you got to see Longwood Gardens -- it's not far from my parents' house, and we used to go whenever we had anyone visiting when I was younger. It's probably a bit more exciting in the summer, but I've always loved the fountains and the greenhouse.

There hadn't been a frost yet, so it was still in full swing, and very lovely. Just no sense of humor to speak of? Not that this is a requirement.
