I've been away from LJ for a while because I'm so busy over here. I really want to post something in my own thoughts as opposed to just dumping a bunch of links, but I rarely have the time. As for ideology, conservative Republicans were happier than conservative Democrats, and moderate to liberal Republicans were happier than comparable Democrats.

i'm going to stereotype terribly but let's say that we take a conservative and a liberal at the same income level, lets say a "miserable" $20,000 a year

a conservative would feel happier because he/she may several things to pacify how miserable he/she feels. for example, guns/hunting, religion, patriotism for supporting the government, a ridiculous truck, a war he/she can support, troops he/she can support

a "liberal" can see the lack of meaning behind all of these and of course will recognize how shitty his/her life is especially when he/she sees how ignorant the status quo is

Ah, I get it... a liberal "sees" the "lack of meaning" behind religion and patriotism while those foolish "blind" conservatives "pacify" themselves with trivial nonsense like a "higher power" or "supporting troops" or "loving their country" and other "meaningless" things. Yup, they just don't get it... life sucks and then you die! Why don't conservatives see this? If only they were as smart as liberals, they would "recognize" this simple fact and then kill themselves.
