17 Days of Con. Days 6-7: JIBLAND3

Jun 07, 2018 08:42

After SPNUK, it was a quick trip home Sunday night to re-pack and do some laundry, then on Monday morning, I flew to Rome! So, days 4 and 5 of my 17 Days of Con were spent travelling to Rome and spending a bit of time with my roommates before JIBWEEK kicked off.

JIBWEEK 2018: JIBLAND3

JIBLAND 3

In previous years, JIBLAND has been mainly Outlander actors with a few guests from other shows, however, this year there were actually no Outlander guests at all (which is fine with me, as I don't watch the show), which I believe was due to their filming schedule.

So, this year, we were due to have:

- Tom Ellis (Lucifer)

- Ricky Whittle (American Gods, The 100)

- David Giuntoli (Grimm)

- Torrence Coombs (Reign, Supernatural (2x18 Hollywood Babylon))

- Brett Dalton (Agents of Shield)

- Reeve Carney (Penny Dreadful, plus he's a musician)

- Plus hosts/special guests Jason, Rich and Rob

However, in April, Ricky Whittle had to cancel due to filming schedules, so they replaced him with Bob Morley (The 100)... who then also had to cancel due to illness just a couple of days before the con!

So, in the end, we got Manu Bennett (Arrow, The Hobbit) as a replacement.

Now, of the shows represented, I only watch Lucifer and Grimm, so I wasn't too enthused about meeting the other guests (and was a little disappointed that Sasha Roiz wasn't coming back this year). However, as you often find with new guests, they can be a lot of fun... and I ended up really enjoying meeting Torrance and Brett, who are lovely and also really fun in panels (and randomly, it turns out that Torrance, Brett and Reeve are all the same age as me - we were all born within about 5 months of each other).

The only guest I wasn't so keen on was Manu Bennett - he seems like a nice enough guy, but he was just so serious and heavy on stage that it kind of brought the whole fun, lighthearted JIB atmosphere down :(.

Despite not being familiar with some of the guests, JIBLAND is awesome because it's low-key and intimate and so you really feel like you're just hanging out with the guests :). It was made all the more personal by the fact that Tom Ellis found out Lucifer had been cancelled right after the con, and so the outpouring of support and the campaigning to #savelucifer seemed all the more personal (he even mentioned being with us in Rome when he went live on KTLA a few days later).

A few of my photos from the con (so grateful for my 3rd row seat this year!):
