Me, myself, and the person inside my skin

Happy birthday, aiwritingfic :)

There's a fanficcer in the Naruto fandom who's also a published author. Not that it's rare - people would willingly write for love and money, and if it's for both, all the better. I just wonder to what extent people would compare their professional writing and their fanfic ( Read more... )

You're welcome :) Did you get my Facebook b'day message?

Quote: It seems that the author who said that has just received an e-mail from someone who has purportedly "tried" to write, and since the author is someone who has worked hard to go pro so she can support her family, it kinda rankled on her. I agree it's ot the best quote to read when we're experiencing writer's block, but then I thought that I hadn't just tried - I have written, even if what I've come up with isn't top-class or anything. I'm learning, and improving. And I will write again, even if I'm not now.
Hope your writer's block will go away soon-ish!

I actually don't recall one from you on Facebook! O_o

Re: quote, I'm sure the pros feel people who say they're trying to write are annoying. I hope they never feel the agony some of this writer's block presses on us. I have 430+ possibly usable words from about 1000 written yesterday, and I consider this progress after WEEKS of pain and nothing to show for it. ^_^ The sequestering technique works!

LOL Count me in into being a published author, although the stuff I write is mainly about accounting XD

I like the quote, but I think that there is one more thing that an author needs. Writing makes no sense when no one reads what you've written :/ You can put the whole your heart into writing and still will be meaningless if people aren't eager to read it.

I guess that's why publishing is a business - you have to know how to market your writing, or leave it in the hands of people who do know. As for eagerness, we'd have to give our best effort in our first writing then, so the readers will want to read our subsequent efforts. Which is more difficult than it sounds...

No one really cares about it when it comes to the scientific publications ^^; They would be published no matter if people will be extremely eager to buy them or not. That's what differs these two writing worlds the most and that's what I don't really like about it *shudders*

Just finished reading Philip Pullman's writing on... writing. Made me feel guilty. He said something like, "Amateurs think it needs a lot of inspiration to be professionals. Professionals know if they always need inspiration, they'll be amateurs."

So what do pros have to know instead - what sort of books will sell well? Ah, idealism vs commerce.

No, more like, If you want to be a writer, if you want to LIVE from your writing, do know that it's no use always waiting for inspiration to finish something. Get the idea (or a starting image), write it down, continue writing. He writes 3 pages a day, whether he's inspired or not that day.

Oh, that - I know the feeling. It's called doing NaNo :D At least now I know how it feels to churn out 10 pages a day (a pro writer does that), though it's not something I'd want to do on a regular basis.
