They were able to arrest Shinotani, because he apparently left his phone number and his name after the act and told her that they should go out together sometime.

If this part really is true, then the guy also gets the prize for the biggest idiot in the world. However, if this is the only proof of his involvement in the matter, then the police had better collect some better evidence, because it's not a proof at all =_= People underestimate the power of otaku and other desperate people and what are they are able to find on the internet and in other place if they want.

That being said, the whole story is plain awful and I just hope that they won't turn it into victim blaming at some point :(

From what I've seen, the internet - that is, fandom - is furious. I know I wouldn't be able to watch him on stage again with enjoyment.

I'm not surprised. I'm not the part of fandom and I'd still want to call the guy names, because what was done here is awful beyond anything :/ Especially when you read between the lines, because they managed to give the gist of the whole thing without writing it outright. And that part with the phone number is the real killer. I just can't wrap my head around it all x__x

Basically, he's done for good, right? Even if he indeed was framed or mistakenly accused, some people would still believe it was him who had done it.

ETA: Oh wait, ANN has a post in it. He admitted to doing it while drunk =_= I just... *is speechles*

He says that he was drunk, but that's no excuse at all. Even doing one of things is horrible enough. And it seems his fellow actors aren't defending him either.
If he's proven guilty, then yes, his career is finished.
