Bernard and Monica Emory hosted a September party every year. In their younger days, it celebrated the return of their five children to boarding school. Now, with those children grown, it was merely held out of tradition. There was dinner and toasting and some dancing. "Great. I'll be looking forward to it," Helena said, smiling at him. She sighed, glancing at the crowd, well aware that she was going to have an even harder time getting donations now... Oh well. "I'm afraid this is probably where I have to say that now duty calls. Have to try to make the rounds once more before people start deciding it's time to head home."

"See you," Helena said, giving a bit of a wave before slipping off to mingle with some of the other guests.

Duela couldn't help but smirk a little at her son. "We leave you alone for ten minutes and you manage to get a date. I'm surprised."

"She might have been being polite," Duela pointed out. "Sometimes girls like that think that feigning ignorance is more polite than saying what they know. It comes off as a lack of common intelligence, but sometimes it's their attempt at manners."
