Several days ago, bizarreoptimism made several posts about her interpretation of the second PotC movie. I and others wanted to hear more, so I decided to set up a chat time so that we could share our views on the subject. This turned into three hours of us egging each other on-uh, that is, conversing about our favorite characters and what Suefic has done to ( Read more... )

Good stuff! It's so nice to read intelligent discussion about PotC; I'm a bit out of the loop in terms of that stuff on LJ, and professional critics tend to dismiss it as so much fluff.

While I had a few problems with DMC I did think they did some very interesting things with the characters. Especially Elizabeth, whom I feared would succumb to the fate of many a female "character" in a sequel and rather than get anything cool to do would merely exist as a motivating factor for her boyfriend (I'm looking at *you* "Bourne Supremacy" and *you* "Back to the Future II" ("Yes! I'm bringing both of you to the future because of something that concerns you both! But... oh, actually, now we're here I better knock Jennifer out and leave her unconscious in an alley 'cause she's getting excited about finding out about her future hysterical and obviously that could lead to an implosion of the space-time continuum and we can't expect to reason with her, obviously, because, well, woman! I mean, when you, Marty, set off a chain of events that could ( ... )

Wow! That was one hell of a great conversation! That's a really rare thing on LJ or wherever you look for it on the internet. Thanks so much for sharing it! I once had a similar in-depth conversation with a good friend about DMC, and it was so much more fun than all the fangirl-conversations I can have with some other friends, who don't think about the movies that thoroughly.

Oh, when you two mentioned the foreshadowing in Jack's line to Bootstrap... well, while watching the movie for the first time I instantly thought: "Talking about yourself again, Jack?" Because at this point I knew that he would try to get out of his deal with Davy Jones but of course didn't know, what Elizabeth would do in the end. Because, yeah of course he's talking about Bootstrap, but I think it also fits Jack's behaviour... trying to get out of that deal not matter how. He too tries to forestall his final judgement. Of course it fits Elizabeth's behaviour perfectly, too. That was just my first thought upon hearing that line.^^

Again a big THANK YOU for ( ... )

And, with so many people close to Will betraying him, he could have given into that. Instead, it's as if he says to himself, "Then I'd better make sure that I make the world a LESS hard, cruel place." In a way, Will is the real rebel of Pirates of the Caribbean.

*fellow Will fan squishes and loves you*

I really enjoyed reading all of this. It's like sitting back with coffee and listening to people's opinions on something you like, and they're smart and they don't have hidden agendas and they're just discussing the STORIES. Thank you for concentrating on plots and characterizations and NOT devolving into 'ships. Ugh, I am so sick of 'ship wars in this fandom.
