Deathly Hallows pt 1 redux

I honestly don't even know if this post will make any more sense than it would have if I'd made it immediately after watching. At 3am Friday morning. BUT WHATEVER. I will start typing and we'll see.

eta: holy crap this is an embarrassing amount of rambling and flail.

spoilers know they'll never love this way again so they'll keep holding on till all the good is gone )

I have yet to see the movie, but your comments about Harry and Hermione have actually made me cry. They are such a beautiful couple. God-damn JKR and god damn to another author who made another brilliand and beautiful couple and broke my heart by ending them. :(

*sniffle*

We got this kind of odd "zip me up" moment when in the book, she took him to her room and straight-up made out with him like a boss because you know what, it was his birthday and she made a deliberate decision to get some. I love that Ginny's unabashed in her romantic choices; I think it's part of what makes her who she is, so spirited and fun as a character, and it's a positive representation of teenage sexuality.

THIS THIS THIS. On top of the whole...Ginny tying Harry's shoe in HBP? Lololol who the fuck is that because I think real!Ginny would make Harry tie his own goddamn shoe. THAT AIN'T HER JOB.

AND YEAH, WHERE WAS DEAN?!

And OMG I agree with all your rambles so much ♥ Malfoys, Trio, Lovegoods, everything was just so well acted in this. I rambled enough in my own reaction post but just...guh. IA with everything.

idek who movie!Ginny is. and I LOVE book!Ginny, I never understood the hate there. So it's disappointing that she got kinda stripped of her agency in this one. The scene would've been better and more seamless had it gone down the way it did in the books.

Your love for this movie, mostly YOUR love for it (because you know how I feel about your Harry, amirite?) really makes me want to see this. Now I really wish my hubs and I would have walked into Deathly Hallows Saturday night instead of that super-turkey called Skyline (IDEK don't get me started on how awful that thing was).

NOT EQUIPPED TO DEAL. FAVORITE FOREVER.

OMG, I know it would be the same for me. If I can see everything with my eyes closed, I'd be able to deal better. Wahh!

The Ginny/Harry scene - the less said about it the better, probably, except: thing is, I'm zen about book!G/H. I'd have preferred Harry/Luna but whatever, I get it, I get what it supposed to mean for Harry -- but it's the way it's done in the movies that bugs me. I know Steve Kloves doesn't ship it, and look I can't lie and say I mind that he ships H/Hr. THAT SAID, he does kinda undermine Harry/Ginny in a way that's not necessary. I was bothered by how he translated the birthday kiss from the book by basically stripping Ginny of the agency she had in that scene. We got this kind of odd "zip me up" moment when in the book, she took him to her room and straight-up made out with him like a boss because you know what, it was his birthday and she made a deliberate decision to get some. There's always a fair amount of anger in fandom over Ron and R/Hr in Kloves' hands but H/G has fared a LOT worse. R/Hr is actually sweet and at least consistent but Kloves undermines H/G and Ginny at every turn. I mean, I might not not be invested from a shipper perspective but I have to admit it from a writing perspective. The movie would've been a perfect chance to show visually what that relationship is about and have a little fun with it.

where Harry and Ginny run through the fields together

This! There wasn't any need to manufacture wardrobe malfunctions! To me Harry/Ginny is about seeking normalcy and belonging and all these things Harry never had, and just... being kids. That should've come through.

I agree! Obviously, I prefer HHr to RHr, but I at least understand where the RHr developed in the books. I did actually enjoy the RHr interactions in HBP. I admit that I sometimes still think that they'd have been cuter if I liked Rupert's looks a bit more, but that's really beside the point. I got all sad as I watched Hermione waiting over Ron in the hospital wing in HBP. She really did look like she cared for him, which was important.
