I'm thinking this article might be up your alley:

Also, is Aaron Stanford on Nikita? He'd be my reason for watching. Roarwr.

Aaron Stanford is in Nikita! He's kind of charming/adorable, too.

That article is great, haha. I fully concede that TSN is probably a good movie with great writing (Sorkin, hello) but it's just not something I'm clamoring to see. My main interest in it is probably Andrew Garfield. XD

Aww, yay. I like how he can be cute, but also a bit creepy at time (X men, all those horror movies he's done, etc). Might give this a look when I'm bored.

Yeah, I have to admit, socially conscious filmgoing is not my strength. I see movies as expressions of society, and somewhat as arbiters of current cultural consciousness, depending on how successful they are, and a movie about a website is about as appealing as... well, not sure what but it doesn't appeal, lol.

I like Undercovers. The second episode was definitely better than the first and Gugu Mbatha-raw is ridiculously beautiful. The show can't be cancelled for that reason alone.

The second episode was a huge improvement, mostly because I liked seeing Sam and Stephen interact more with the supporting cast, who're all delightful. I particularly like Stephen's scenes with Leo a LOT.

They can't cancel Gugu's face. They can't. I can't conceive of it.

The conversations between Stephen and Leo were great. I agree completely that the interaction with the rest of the cast made the difference.

I did hear that the portrait Sorkin paints of Zuckerberg is super-unflattering, but it's like you say, it's just another movie about privileged assholes and maybe I'm just grumpy atm, but I'm not in the mood.

because I'm broke and don't have the extra money to spend on a narrative about affluent white boys and their lives, one that is supposed to ~define my generation~ as a Y-er, but in which I see no evidence of anything relating to my actual experiences

THANK YOU FOR PERFECTLY SUMMARIZING MY TOTAL DISINTEREST IN "THE SOCIAL NETWORK".

re: Nikita

LOLOLOL YES. I have been slowly letting go of all of my lingering disapproval due to my adolescent love of La Femme Nikita, but I am still entirely incapable of taking Shane West seriously at any point. I consider it a success if I manage not to laugh during at least ONE of his scenes. It's the Batman voice he insists on doing, I feel.

Maggie Q is rocking my world though. Every time I am like LOL SHANE WEST WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING or MAN I AM GOING TO NEED YOU TO DO SOMETHING BETTER WITH JADEN THAN THIS "RIVALRY" THAT ALMOST SEEMS LIKE IT WILL VAGUELY SKIRT THE COMPLEX ISSUES THERE BUT THEN DOESN'T then there is another Nikita scene and she does something amazing and I forget all my complaints

+ looool seriously though. I feel like there is this ~stan uprising on my tumblr dash, about how people are wrong to disparage this movie!! omg without even seeing it! And I'm like look, even if I weren't pretty sure I have actually seen enough movies about privileged nerds and their lives, THE RAMPANT DETAILED SPOILERS YOU ALL KEEP POSTING MEAN I HAVE LITERALLY SEEN IT ALREADY, and am even less interested than I was before! So... thanks ( ... )

I keep holding out hope that something will eat Tumblr that I actually care about.

SOMEDAY IT WILL BE MY TIME.

I can't not laugh, I can'tLast episode, I realized that it was one of his scenes and I wasn't laughing (mostly because I wasn't paying full attention) then as soon as I realized I wasn't laughing I actually listened to him and, you guessed it, BURST INTO GIGGLES ( ... )

The script of Social Network is based on the actual story of what happened though, and in order to be as accurate as they were trying to be there was no way to just insert more female characters into the story. And actually the female characters who are in the film, particularly Marks' amazing ex-girlfriend Erica, make some smart points about why the main characters have such trouble interacting with women ( ... )

I completely get what you're saying! I know it's based on a true story and I know they couldn't like, genderswap the main characters or anything like that. Totally. But I'd argue that yeah, there ARE ways to include female characters, even supporting/background ones, in this general sphere of atypically hot techie coding nerds, when they seem to have found space in the script for strippers and hot crazy Asian stereotypes. And I get that these dudes are geniuses who don't know HOW to interact with women. I just feel like the script could do better than to simply objectify them, that's all ( ... )
