I really enjoyed Y: The Last Man. I read one called The Nikopol Trilogy the other weekend that I really enjoyed.

Ooh, Runaways! I really want to read that one (and not only because Joss Whedon wrote for it briefly). And Y the Last Man sounds really fascinating.

What did you think of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? I've heard all of the buzz, but apparently it's also really brutal, and I don't know if I'm up for that just at the moment.

Runaways is fantastic, and I wasn't aware Whedon wrote for it! I can see how it would appeal to him, he did a lot of that balancing the supernatural with the normal teenager issues on Buffy, etc.

GwtDT was good (it really picked up after the first third of the book), but very brutal, it was just really hard to read in spots. I'm still looking forward to reading the next two because I hear they're a lot better (read: even more about Lisbeth).

Oh! You've started reading Mark. I swear, it's making me fall in love with HP series again. His enthusiasm and excitement about it is infectious.

Miss you! ♥

His recaps of GoF as he's nearing the end of the book are amazing, he's flailing all over the place.

♥!

Age of Bronze is a cool comic, though I think it's still in the process of being written/finished. It's about the Trojan War, and as an ancient history/myth geek, I love it. :3

Seconding this! I seriously love the way the author is determined to fit in every single myth he possibly can. Alot of Trojan War stories I've seen tend to abandon at least a couple of the strands (not that I blame them because there are so many and sometimes they contradict and it'd be a bit of a headache) but Eric Shanower is like no. :/ It's all staying. Even that girl Paris was going to marry who he totally ditched for Helen and no one remembers. ALL OF IT.

Omg yes! And everyone forgets about Iphigenia, too. :| I like how the female characters are generally well-rounded, too.

Iphigeniaaaaa. Oh my god, I cried when she died in the second volume. ;_; But if she had to be sacrificed I'm glad she went the way she did, so brave and unflinching.

Oh man, Runaways is so great, especially during the Bill Willingham era. The current issues aren't really living up to its potential but I'm still holding on hope. I'd give anything to have Willingham doing the writing again. =(

Have you tried Young Avengers? I like it alot and I sort of associate it with Runaways in my mind because they're both teenage superhero stories I started at roughly the same time and enjoyed immensely. Fair warning though: publication of the series has just sort of...stopped. =( I don't know, I've been waiting for volume 3 for ages. All of the newer stuff is caught up in those big series crossovers Marvel likes so much.

Also Y: The Last man is really really awesome! You might want to try his newer series, Ex Machina after; it has the mayor of New York as a superhero! Legit politics + superheroes = awesome. =D

And now that I've seen meri_sefket's comment I just want to add that if you like manga I have so many recommendations for you! =D Because manga is my best thing, I read more manga then I do actual books and I have made my way through the best of the best and the worst of the worst. I am a manga AFFICIANADO.

So yeah, just let me know if you're interested. =DDDDDD

SO INTERESTED. Next on my manga list when I get round to it is Fullmetal Alchemist, which I plan to read whilst watching FMA Brotherhood. But who even knows when I'll finally get to it.

I would LOVE any recs you can share especially because we tend to have such similar tastes. *g*

And thanks for the comic recs too - Young Avengers is on my short list to check out because goobalicious has recced it many a time.

=D I am totally sitting here with like twenty titles running through my head. So much awesome to be shared! It is almost overwhelming.

Also I just read zahrawithaz's comment and I want to second Bayou. It's amazing, I've seen it described as Alice in Wonderland in the reconstruction South which is not a bad way of putting it. I've only read the first volume which was mostly set up and still made me put the next one on my To Buy Immediately list.

Okay, now manga time! Titles are sorted by genre! And by genre I mean, my own personal categories for story types I see often.

School stories w/ romance: Probably the best of these is Kare Kano (translated as His and Her Circumstances). Yukino is a totally hilarious character who tries to maintain a perfect girl image at school only to relax and kick back at home where she enjoys pursuits like plotting how she will totally TAKE DOWN her biggest competition for Top Awesome Student, Soichiro Arima. SHE WILL NOT RELINQUISH HER NUMBER ONE PLACE ( ... )
