I'm not excusing any of the stuff he's said or done -- it's still infuriating and he invites a lot of the criticism because he's been so openly and COMPLETELY dismissive of the protests, but I mean he's being scapegoated in the sense that it's being framed in the media as his problem, rather than a problem that permeates our entire society and makes Hollywood so ripe for this kind of whitewashing to begin with. This is hardly the first movie where this has happened.
I think generally when something high-profile happens and it's faily, whether that's in Hollywood or in fandom, there's a tendency to isolate it and hold it apart from everything and everyone else, as if that fail isn't a direct consequence of the type of society we live in, you know? These problems aren't individual, they're institutional.
But I agree that Shyamalan is 32 different kinds of WRONG, and has been involved in almost every step of this film getting made.
that Avatar Kyoshi's statue was of a man that Avatar Kyoshi's statue was of a man that Avatar Kyoshi's statue was of a man
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHAT NO
I'm going to hope that those multiple sources are wrong and that they did not actually cut out the actual Kyoshi warriors, but leave Kyoshi... as a dude. Just... no. The fact there was a female Avatar was so important. :/
