Thank you for sharing those meta posts! Very enjoyable reads. I've never been a fan of the trigger-finger definition of Mary Sues. I feel like sometimes the term gets abused, and it inhibits writers of OCs more than anything.

I really need to catch up with Doctor Who. Matt Smith sounds fantastic. :)

Yeah, it's been interesting to read! I think the term's used too loosely, inaccurately, and in fairly misogynistic ways when it comes to a lot of canon female characters. And when it comes to the OCs that writers use sometimes when they're just starting out which I guess is the more classic way of describing Sues ... that just seems nonconstructive and mean to me. And off the point. Mary Sues aren't poorly written because they're 'too special'; that's not the problem. And framing it that way inhibits those writers like you said -- makes them feel like they suck and like they should lower their expectations of how ~special~ their female characters should be.

I can guarantee you'd ship them if you watched Confidential. I'm not an RP shipper, but I definitely see the chemistry in all their interactions, not just onscreen.
