+ Signal boost! zahrawithaz has a list of 50 books by queer authors of color, in honor of the opening of queerlit50 and the continued radness of 50books_poc. If anyone's attempting either challenge, that list has got it all. Zahra's journal is full of a variety of thought food, btw; you should look her up.

To be honest, I find every character on Glee irritating. But the music is nice. And I'm in love with Rachel's fashion sense, which makes my housemate give me weird, disapproving looks.

bb, if there is one thing this show has taught me, it is that being a cheating asshole MAKES you a nice guy. Clearly.

I watched Glee once and thought the writing was retarded, and because of reading about it from you, I don't think I'll ever watch it again. O_o Wasn't your last post about it about them having icky domestic abuse where they made the abuser the hero or something?

Yay, booklist! I am being conscientious about reading more things, so I'm starting a booklog for this year. MORE FOR MY LIST! \o/

Also I just read that offense vs. harm essay this afternoon! It is pretty awesomely clarifying.

That comment explains so much about why everyone on this show is STILL being mean to Rachel. Ryan Murphy thinks she is too irritating to be lovable! I think he is WRONG.

Thanks for the link to the offense/harm essay, it was interesting.

About nine kinds of wrong, yeah. He thinks of all the female characters as manipulative shrews though, so it's not too surprising.

Oh good. It wasn't just me thinking that. *sighs*

I haven't watched any further than Episode 6. I love the singing, but the marginalisation of non-whites and the way all the women are either schemers or shrews (no matter how awesome they are) is just...

NO.

Ffffuuuuuu -- I'm seriously reconsidering whether I wanna keep watching Glee next season, or just skip through to see the awesome singing scenes.

I hate when shows that I reallyreally want to be good ends up disappointing me in horrid and hurtful ways, wtf. Also - Puck/Rachel? Really? Out of everything that's missing in the show, that's what Murphy picked up from his fans? A pairing ship?!?

oh wait, this is Glee fandom; nvm

I might start tuning out and multitasking when the kids aren't singing, tbh.
