They only think they are a parody. My former mother-in-law used to carry a Glock because, she said, "It's a nice, light, ladylike weapon that will fit in your purse. Also, it's fully automatic."

I am very much not joking. My ex-MIL is one of the few human beings on Earth I am actually afraid of. She's a hillbilly Jew...There are more of those than you think, and it's a particularly terrifying cultural combination. She distinctly lacks the Calvinistic fatalism of most Southerners but she does have our love of weaponry. FEAR.

I think that is what specifies it as parody though, a basis or root in reality. Otherwise it would just be silly humor.
