Do you remember when they first started putting ads on shopping carts in the grocery store? Remember thinking at that time that it seemed like advertising was starting to be on everything? That is extremely creepy (especially the people posing as tourists). I'm so sick of this pervasive advertising crap. They put flat screens in the elevators at my old workplace. It made me angry every time I had to ride the elevator ( ... )

They might be shooting themselves in the foot here. When I'm sufficiently impressed with a product/service, I'm likely to let folks know about it (traditional word-of-mouth - doesn't cost 'em a thing, other than the expense of making a worthy product). I would, though, be chary of engaging in unpaid WoM for any company that used paid shills, no matter how good the product was - why the dickens should I give them for free, something for which they're paying others?

If enough folks had that reaction, traditional WoM would become a quaint primitive custom. OTOH, I'm a contrarian who exhibits this sort of perverse pigheadedness by reflex, so quite possibly there wouldn't be enough folks reacting that way.
