Summary: When going to visit her uncle Charlie Swan, Rachel never expected her cousins daughter to take a liking to her. Nor did she expect to be waiting to taking the little girl trick or treating.

Slow Change
Rachel did not know what she was expecting when she agreed to a visit with her uncle Charlie Swan and his daughter, Bella. She certainly was not expecting to find that Bella had married and already had a seemingly eleven year old daughter named Renesmee.
The little girl was beyond adorable however, precious in every way as she took an instant liking to the petite diva, thus leading Rachel in her current predicament. The singer found herself in a tension filled home as she waited for the girl to finish getting into her costume with the assistance of her mother. Rachel glanced from one side of the room to the other. The Cullen’s stood in one side of the room, while Bella’s friends from La Push stood in the opposite side.
Not being able to handle much more of this silence, Rachel coughed unsure how she felt when all eyes turned to her. Standing straight she gave everyone her brightest smile, not missing the eye rolls from Rosalie and Leah, “How is everyone this evening?”
She blinked as she waited for any reply, silence lingering in the air for another brief moment before two voices boomed with laughter. Emmett and Paul were leaned over as they laughed. Rachel frowned. She did not see what was so funny. She had just asked a simply question. The petite diva nearly jumped out of her skin as a hand fell on her shoulder.
“Don’t mind them. They are just amused easily.” Edward Cullen offered a friendly smile before he retreated towards his family, whispering something to his father Carlisle. The doctor smiled, both men chuckling as Edward stepped back.
Carlisle cleared his throat, drawing everyone’s focus to him, “It seems Renesmee that not all of us will be joining her tonight for trick or treat. She wishes only Jacob, Seth and Rachel to company her this evening.”
There was a brief uproar as everyone disagreed until said little girl entered the room. Renesmee stood in front of Bella flashing a smile to everyone. Her eyes lit up as she spotted Rachel and hurried to her.
Renesmee twirled causing the skirt of her dress to fan out around her. “How do I look?”
Rachel beamed down at the girl, “You are an enchanting Belle, Renesmee.”
The girl squealed as she launched herself forward and wrapped her arms around Rachel’s waist, before she hurried over to Jacob and his friends, the teenage boy instantly picking the little girl up the moment she was within reach.
“Is it okay with you?” Bella asked as she came to stand with her cousin.
Brown eyes blinked, “I’m sorry?”
Bella smiled, “If you take Renesmee to trick or treat. I told her I would go with her but she was rather animate that she only wanted you, Jake and Seth to take her.”
“That’s really sweet of her,” Rachel smiled, watching the little girl run across the room showing off her princess dress. “I’ll be honest with you. I’m not used to this.” She sighed at Bella’s confused expression, “everyone being nice to me. Back home things aren’t exactly like this. I’m not will liked.”
“Want me to beat them up for you?” a voice asked from behind Bella. Rachel had to smile as Emmett stared down at her in all seriousness.
She giggled, “Thanks but I’ve been able to handle things for myself.”
Emmett winked, “You ever want to take the offer just let Bella know. We’ll be up there in a heartbeat to help you out, especially Seth.” He grinned as he gently elbowed her to look in Seth’s direction.
The Quileute boy quickly looked away the moment she looked up. From the way his cheeks were turning red and the teasing Paul seemed to be giving him he’d been caught. It was kind of cute actually. Before she could linger on thoughts of boys, crushes and feelings, an energetic flash of yellow appear in front of her.
“Aunt Rachel, come on! Let’s go before it gets too dark outside and Jake makes us come home early.” Rachel looked at Bella who just smiled with a shrug as though to say ‘just go with it’.
The girl promptly tugged on Rachel’s hand harshly, “Okay, okay,” she laughed allowing the girl to pull her towards the door. She flashed the others a smile, “We’ll take good care of her and make sure she’s home promptly at nine.” Renesmee groaned as she let go of her hand in favor of Jacob’s.
Without a word Seth appeared beside her, walking in pace with her with his hands in his packets and a sheepish expression on his face. She offered him a kind smile, slipping her arm through the loop of his arm as they followed behind. This trip to Washington might be just was she needed.
