Liz sat down on one of the tables of the outdoor cafe with a ham sandwich and her calculus notes. An unopened can of soda sat beside her sandwich waiting to be opened. Max had learned accidentally what the soda was capable of so he very, very carefully avoided it. That was, until he saw the unopened can next to Liz. He couldn't get the older image of himself out of his mind or the feeling that had come from Liz because of it.

He paused beside her with his own lunch, motioning toward the empty seat opposite her. "Hey, feel like some company?" Max should feel bad, he really should. Maybe Michael was rubbing off on him.

She looked up when he neared - she always seemed to know when he was around - and nodded that he could take the other spot. She even moved her books so he would have room.

"Sure. I'm just trying to study for calculus... it's a lot harder than it initially looks."

Max slid into the chair opposite Liz and popped open his soda to go with his sandwich, hoping she would do the same with hers.

"Yeah, there's a lot of homework already."

"Do you have a lot, too?" It took a moment for Liz to open her own soda since she first jotted down a note and closed her textbook for a moment. She would have lunch first, with Max, then go back to studying. The can fizzed as it opened and she took a sip. It was actually pretty good.
