The power still hadn't come on yet which was troubling considering night had fallen which provided cover for anyone out wishing ill will. He and the other staff at Rangeman were busy as none of their computer systems were working. All their security would have to be done on foot today. That was fine with Riley - it gave him some good exercise ( Read more... )

John had been in the Holosuite when the electricity went out. The room had suddenly gone from fighting demons to black and yellow grid and it was a little disorienting. What brought a scowl to his face was that when he tried to open the door it wouldn't. Unfortunately the gun he'd had with him on the program was a computer generated one and that faded with everything else.

He slammed his body repeatedly against the door until it opened enough that he could grab it open. Sadly, the repeated hitting his shoulder against it dislocated it and while he was able to put it back, Mary would have insisted he get it looked at. So to stop that argument before it even happened he headed toward the clinic.

John took the card gingerly in his good hand and put it in his pocket. "Deal. This go for my boys?" He shot her a grin. "Do we get a family discount?"

She nodded. "Of course. Especially if they're anything like their dad." She winked.

"They're alot like both of their parents, but neither one has a lot of patience." He'd let it be vague whether he meant his sons taking after him in that regard, or that both he and Mary had little patience about some things.

"Sounds like half the village. It's a wonder sometimes how we get some of them to even visit the clinic."

John chuckled, "it's probably their wives and girlfriends making them come here."

"True." She laughed a little. "I've done it a few times myself. We know better." Martha winked playfully.

"There are some things women are better at then men." John agreed. "And being sensible about getting help when you're hurt is one." That would apply for emotional hurt as well, but he left that unsaid.

"I can see why your wife loves you." Martha smiled and thought briefly of Lucas - was he alright back home?

John saw the flash of memory in her expression. It was there and gone but for someone that lived that for over a decade, he recognized it.

"We make a good team." He meant he and Mary. "And that right there is the secret to a good marriage." John winked at her. "Give and take, partnership." He grinned, "and someone that will put up with bullheadedness." John was vague and who had what but of course they both had their share of stubborn.

"That's always key. Otherwise it unravels quite quickly." Travelling with the Doctor, for example, would not have happened like it did if she couldn't put up with some of his stubbornness.

"I'm very happy for the both of you." Martha smiled.

"Thanks. I'm a very lucky man." John smiled at Martha, "in both my wife and the lovely doctor who helped me get out of potential hot water with her."
