A "man" of letters (OTA)

That he now had bookshelves and a chair that sat next to a fireplace in which to read was a marvel. At first, the creature had crouched in his room long after the workmen had left, not daring to touch. It was only late that night when he'd lit the fire, sat in the chair, moving it to place it just right. He hadn't slept; it felt too decadent, too ( Read more... )

With the sound of the door opening, Cat looked up and smiled at who her new customer was. "Hi."

Catherine's touch soothed him. "W-will you st-still come to s-s-see my room?"

"Of course. I'd love to see it." She assured him with a smile. "I think that we have enough here to get you started. We can go whenever you'd like."

So, the creature stood. It was decided who would carry what with him carrying the bulk of what needed to be transported, and he was able to let Catherine into his room, stepping inside and aside so that she could see.

He set down what he had and rushed to the fireplace to stoke the embers; it made the room warmer, he thought.

(ooc: I imagine something like this. No window, of course, with a wood-burning fireplace.)

Catherine turned in a slow circle looking at the room and smiled when her eyes met his. "This is lovely, very inviting and comfortable."

ooc: Oooo I like it.

His head back a bit more than it had been, the creature nodded, setting down his parcels. "A m-m-man named Dr-Draco organi-nized it." But it was his.

"Well he did a good job organizing it but you had to say you wanted it to look like this." Catherine moved to put the CDs over by the player. "It shows good taste and I think it reflects what you like and find comfortable."

"It is the n-nicest - it is n-nicer than I e-ever thought I'd h-have," the creature confessed, touching the CDs.

"It's not nicer than you deserve though." Cat wanted to make sure that he understood that. She indicated the bookshelf with books. "You like to read?"

Nodding, the creature moved to the bookshelf and the few books he had gathered. "I have r-r-read this." Wuthering Heights. "A-and now I will r-r-read this." Gulliver's Travels.

Catherine let her fingertips slide along the spine of Gulliver's Travels. "I think you'll like this one." She let her gaze move to his, "how did you like Wuthering Heights?"

She had a feeling with Heathcliff's desire for revenge, the Creature probably identified with him.

"There are n-no things as gh-ghosts," replied the creature. "It is H-Heathcliff's d-d-desire to s-see Ca-Cathy which drove him m-m-mad."

That she was called Cathy might have had something to do with his choice.

"His obsession." Catherine agreed, "is what drove him mad and while I think he had help with the abuse he suffered, he made choices that ruined his life." And others. "We are the sum of our choices and decisions made by others."

"H-here," the creature noted quietly. "We h-have choices." More than he had where he was from. He was growing to like it here.

"Yes we do and here, we don't have the expectations of others. We're free to be who we are without judgement." In his case and in hers, she was free (for the time being) from the mire that was Muirfield.

"W-will you show me h-how to play the m-music?" he asked.
