This was not Haymitch's normal bar. But he'd been kicked out of his normal bar and this bar had been the next one on his walk (or stumble) back to the hotel.
Needless to say he was drunk. Very drunk. He was always a little drunk but since the kids had gone home to God knew what and Effie had insinuated herself into his life in ways he knew would be excruciating when she was gone (and she would be gone eventually) he'd been more drunk, more often.
Luckily the bartender had sold him a bottle and he was capable of refilling his glass.
He glanced over at her, sipped his drink. If this was the Capitol he'd simply tell her he wasn't interested, assuming she was a hired companion. But that seemed less likely in the village.
Joan looked at him without looking away for a moment, able to, of course, clearly see the signs of alcoholism in his face. She turned back to her drink. "Nice night," she said, coversationally.
When Oliver came on shift and saw Joan sitting at the bar, he slipped the other bartender a fifty to let him take over that side of the bar. He slapped a towel over his shoulder and made his way to stand in front of her.
"Hi and welcome to In and Out. Can I refresh your beer?"
Oliver did a refill and didn't put it on her tab. This one was on the house. "Glad you decided to check out the before side of things. How do you like it?" Not that it was his place but it was similar to the one he and Tommy were going to open.
