Searching for... (Open, careful tag Ares?)

Tyr knew that using the pager was not the way to get in contact with the god of war. He didn't seem to have a temple to go to, which would have been the logical place. Tyr decided to go to the gun range and see if some practice might not just draw Ares' attention ( Read more... )

Ares was generally aware of warriors in the village. So, when one of the few that he truly considered a warrior went to the shooting range Ares appeared in a shimmer of light near him.

It was one (of many) thing that irritated Ares about Haurvatat. As much as there were battles from time to time, there never was a true battle with warriors. A war would be nice from time to time so his followers (literal or not) could do what they do best.

"And I won't disappear or fight where you can't see me." It was a concession to keep it as even as possible. Or Ares' version of that.

Tyr chuckled.

"That's as fair as you can make it. Where and when?" A sparring match in the shooting range would not be a good idea. However, he didn't think there would be much interference if it happened, at least not from any ordinary people.

"How about the woods?" Mortals went in there but not as frequently as the beach and the area by the lake. It would give enough cover and provide obstacles as well. "And anytime that you want." Tyr was the one that had more responsibilities than Ares.

"Next week. I'll want to make sure I have time open afterward in case I'm moving a little slow." He didn't want the children to worry--they shouldn't see their father as fallible, not when they were still so young.

"You will be." Ares promised him with a smirk. "But it'll be a good slow moving." And he suspected not for long.

"Looking forward to it." Tyr flexed slightly, just thinking of a good challenge. He looked down at the rented projectile weapon.

"Have you ever used these?" he asked.

"A couple of times." Ares admitted, but it hadn't been much. He preferred lightening bolts or sword play but that was because what he was used to.

"Did you want to have a go since you're here?" Tyr figured it would take the first shot then maybe two adjustments to get a solid one-hole grouping. Or one adjustment, since the sights on the weapon were fairly accurate.

"Sure, why not." Ares would have to learn sooner or later with the modern weapons. He knew that he'd make it into the modern world even if few people knew what he looked like or believed in his existence. Which was a shame really.

Tyr explained the features of the weapon and set up a new target before putting on hearing protection. He preferred to use it for safety but Ares wouldn't need any.

Ares took in everything that Tyr said and raised the weapon to fire. He thought of it as sending lightening bolts so he aimed the same way. The first bullet was off center mass by a little. The next missed the kill shot of the forehead by an inch. The third, went perfectly through the heart.

"Inspiring," was all Tyr had to say about that. He'd expected as much.

"Some time next week. How should I contact you?"

"I have the Messenger." But he didn't really use it much. "I'm connected to all warriors." The ones worthy of his notice, like Tyr. "Just call my name when you're ready and I'll be there."

That wasn't entirely reassuring, but it would have to do.

"I'll do that." He was very curious as to how this would turn out and if his wives would end up angry. Maybe not; they knew him.

Ares's lips quirked, "I also work at the fight club. You can find me there." He enjoyed adding in the need to do battle there.
