Relaxation (OTA)

Early afternoon found Klaus drinking in the hotel bar: not where he usually drank, but why not mix things up a bit? He spent about an hour relaxing there, nothing incredibly pressing on his mind ( Read more... )

"Who would have guessed you could draw?" The voice came from nearby and, once he looked up, Klaus would find Jenna standing nearby watching him with a slightly neutral gaze. She was no longer uneasy or trying to avoid him though she didn't go out of her way to have contact with him either.

Still, there was she was striking up a conversation.

"Not anyone who fell victim to the onslaught of certain plans of mine," Klaus said bluntly, yet evenly. He wasn't one to tiptoe in conversation, but he wasn't actively trying to be hurtful to Jenna either. "I've been drawing all my life, in the calmer moments."

He'd looked up at her when she'd spoken, intrigued that she'd stopped. "Do you like art?"

"Gees, what a shocker. Maybe you should draw them a picture beforehand then." She commented wryly, seemingly not bothered by his comment at all as she drifted closer.

Then she shrugged a bit, smiling a little. "Somewhat." She leaned forward. "Can I see?"

Klaus had taken Elijah's request not to hurt certain people in the village very seriously, although he'd taken that as not physically harming them. Still, some part of him was happy to have Jenna not turn and walk away.

He gave a nod, holding the book out for her to see. There were two scenes drawn on the same page, one finished and the other in the works. "Odd lot of people that work at this hotel. It's as if something told them someone wanted to draw some of them today, so to smile appropriately and be still when necessary."

Faye was enjoying her last stint of freedom before classes started back. That had pretty much meant sleeping in, then going to do yoga in the park in the frighteningly mild weather, followed by a little bit of a grounding ritual. She'd had lunch at the cafe with Angela and Lydia, and now was contemplating what to do until evening when she was supposed to be at the roller rink to work.

She brightened when she saw Klaus in the lobby and moved to perch on the arm of his chair, dropping a kiss on the top of his head.

"What are you drawing?"

Focused on drawing, Klaus still felt Faye's presence before she sat down and shifted his attention in her direction. He ran a hand over her leg, other pencil-holding hand waving toward the quiet hotel staff.

"Just people. They don't seem to mind," he said, pausing and smiling. "It's not what I usually draw, but something prompted me to today. How are you, love?"

She followed the gesture to watch the hotel staff for a moment, before turning back to him and leaning a little against him at the touch.

"I'm good. Just enjoying my last few days of freedom before your brother starts assigning all the reading ever again." Mostly she was teasing. She hadn't had to take another class with Elijah, but she actually really liked history, and he taught well--beyond just being fun to exasperate on a regular basis.

Really, she hadn't had to take any classes at all--college wasn't require here or anything, but...what else was she going to do with her days?

"He's ruthless with those readings, isn't he? I think part of it is his way of coping with having to have lived through so many important, historical events. Make everyone else have to try to live through the moments." Some of which were exciting, some terribly dull, but there was no part of Elijah being studious that Klaus actually saw as anything other than admirable.

"Maybe your other teachers will have some degree of mercy?" Joking around with Faye was always enjoyable.

Eve had been looking for Klaus since Rebekah's return. When she saw him in the lobby, she walked up to him and took a seat in the armchair next to him, quietly, as he drew.

Klaus had nothing against Eve's presence, and he greeted her with a small glance as he continued to draw. "Well, hello there."

"You look like you're enjoying yourself." She smiled. Hello, Klaus!

"But of course. This place has allowed me to take pleasure in the simplest of delights." Which, truth be told, is what he'd always wanted: yet, power, greed, and a natural inclination to be volatile had overshadowed that.
