An evening at the library - open

Oct 30, 2012 01:44

The lack of internet had left Charlie... Bored. A boredom which had turned to wandering. Which had eventually turned into something of a schedule. The beach, the diner, occasionally a club. She didn't know what drew her to the library that day, but confusion didn't stop her from losing herself among the books ( Read more... )

Belle has always loved books. She'd done a lot of reading during the time she'd lived with Rumpelstiltskin before it had gone bad, so being drawn to the library isn't particularly surprising. She's even considered asking for a job there, but she's torn between a place where the books must be returned, and the store where she can actually buy them and keep them.

Browsing the shelves, she's wearing her customary dress, even though there are more modern clothes, and the offer to go shopping has happened more than once. She will, soon, but for now it's familiar to dress this way. She's just been given her memories again, after all. She never did anything in Storybrooke. Never learned to live in this world.

Pulling a book off of the shelf, she runs he fingers almost reverently over the cover before pulling it to her chest, looking around for an empty seat.

Charlie watches her, peering over the cover of a particularly thick book. She hasn't seen the title yet, too busy staring at the woman. Somehow, the comfort with which Belle wore it makes Charlie feel under-dressed, rather than the reverse. She's just wearing a casual tee shirt and jeans, after all.

When she sees Belle sit, she follows. Settling casually across the table, she peers over the top of her book to try and meet Belle's eyes.

"You come here often?" Wow. That line was cliche.

When the book is put down, it turns out to be Moby Dick, having never seen it as required reading or an exhausting read, or any of the other stereotypical things associate with a book.

But when she's spoken too, Belle looks up in surprise, but smiles. "I try to now. Now that I know it's here and...now that I sort of know my way around."

Her accent, to anyone from Earth, would be best described as 'Australian.' But that's a place that Belle has never heard of.

To her, Belle's voice just sounded exotic. Not that she was going to tell Belle that. It wasn't as if the woman had expressed any interest, after all.

"My first visit," she admitted, instead. Her eyes flicked to the book title, before returning to Belle's eyes. "Guess you must really love books, huh?"

Lisbeth loved to read, to know. And since she didn't want much hacking that she could do here with any real fervor, that left the library most days.

She was still trying to figure out a pattern to the village and who came and left, but right now she was scanning a row of books on Biology. She didn't look like the average bookworm, clad in a white wife beater that left her dragon back tattoo visible, a pair of black cargo pants, and her hair done-up in her a mohawk.

Finding a textbook that looked like it might interest her, it was on the Evolution and Physiology, and then she took a seat at a nearby table to open it to read, not really paying much attention to anyone else there.

Charlie settled down across from her, her own book at hand. Although she was reading the pages, they only had a part of her attention. Most of it was on Lisbeth, who she peered at over her cover.

The mohawk wasn't exactly her idea of fashion, but it certainly drew attention.

She head the chair move across from her, and Lisbeth lifted her eyes from the words on the page she was reading, brow raised because she noticed she had the other woman's attention.

"Hi." It wasn't awkward. Why would it be awkward? Just because she was half staring at Lisbeth...
