As he always was in times of emergency, Simon was at the clinic, or what passed for the village's clinic right now--but no one had seen or heard from River, and Simon couldn't take it anymore. He went looking for her.

He missed the fight, thankfully--there was no telling how he would've handled being faced with that--but found her in the aftermath and couldn't tell from the distance if she was breathing. With his throat tight, he ran across the distance between them and dropped to her side.

"River? River!" He laid his hands on either side of her neck, felt a pulse, saw her chest move with a breath. He checked her over carefully for injuries before he lifted her up to carry her to the clinic.

His voice was soothing, and she curled closer as he carried her. Could she be a real girl again?
