Leoben still hadn't gotten over the disappearance of his son. He believed it was part of God's plan, to show him his son and then take him away. But that didn't mean it didn't hurt. But at the same time it gave him hope that he'd have a child one day. That John would happen. And he'd be with Kyla when they left this place. He didn't care if it ( Read more... )

Kyla was midway through her second run for the day when she saw the familiar back of Leoben's head from the path. She slowed and came to a stop as her eyes went from him to the playground he was no doubt looking at. It was easy for Kyla to make the connection.

She exhaled softly and felt her feet move towards him before her mind had gathered the courage to do so. They hadn't really talked about it - Kyla was nervous to bring it up. Would it make things worse? Would it make things hurt more? She didn't feel capable of talking about things like this.

"Hey." She gave Leoben a small smile as she rounded the bench. Ripper walked around her and right up to Leoben and plopped his big mass in front of him while Ginger remained standing as if surveying the area.

Leoben's gaze fell first to Ripper lay down in front of him and he reached down to pat his head, absently. Then he looked Kyla's way, a soft smile gracing his lips, "Hello. Going for a run?"

She was thankful that she hadn't yet gotten to the point where sweat fully graced her face, though she could feel it in places on her shirt. It didn't help that the weather was nice.

Kyla nodded and, after a moment, took a seat on the bench. "Kind of predictable, huh?"

She actually found that she liked to run when no one was chasing her. It was nice to set your own pace and push yourself.

"Only a little." he assured her with a chuckle, leaning back on the bench, but the smile sobered when a pair of the children in the playground let out a series of happy cries as they chased on another.

"You look sad." Alissa came to the park to observe the children, but when she spots Leoben, she changed directions to join him. Her face is contorted with slight concern.

"I'm thinking about my son." Kyla hadn't wanted John around Alissa, but he hand mentioned to the girl about him, his son arriving weeks ago and then leaving.

The concept of procreation was unappealing to Alissa, but Clea had begun to enjoy the concept. Alissa did not understand the appeal.

"You miss his presence."

"Very much." she agreed, "He was mine. My family. Just like you might miss Clea..." he didn't know that the feelings involved were completely the same, since Alissa tended to have such emotions surpressed.
