At the church (OTA in or outside of the church!)

For a couple of weeks now, Sura had set herself on a mission to learn more about what she had spoken with Joe, no Destruction, about on the beach: the religious belief that there could possibly be only one god. It seemed absolutely foolish to her that anyone would deny the validity of the gods when there were several living amongst mortals in the ( Read more... )

There was certainly Someone in the church that would have all the answers she sought, only He wasn't really in the habit of doing such things. Especially not as Chuck. He'd certainly talk to her though. Whether he'd actually provide her with anything profound was another matter however.

He was in the church library tapping away on a computer. Chuck had been considering taking up writing again. Fiction this time. But so far everything he started fell flat. He cursed under his breath and deleted the several paragraphs he'd written.

The tapping sound of the typing drew Sura in after she walked further into the church. When the man sitting down in front of what she knew was some kind of computer (though she'd never used one before, other than the little messenger) came into her line of sight, she watched him intently for a moment.

"Hello," she said quietly, stepping closer to stand in front of where he sat. "I apologize for my disturbance, but do you frequent this place?

[ooc: I accidentally tagged Chuck instead of Church last night, but I definitely don't mind the thread. =D Sorry about that!]

[ooc: lol, no worries.]

Chuck looked up from his computer, startled.

"Oh-- uh, hi." he stood, straightening the hair he'd been pulling a bit in frustration, "Yeah, I do. I work here."

"What kind of work do you do?" Sura asked, feeling and looking very much like a curious child.

Since I saw my brother the first time I'd been coming to our graves every week or so. I knew he was a vision, and by the end of the nightmare he was nothing like himself, but I still believed in the truth of that first conversation.

I hadn't been this at peace in a long time.

I stood there, over the flowers I had placed on both graves. The one to the left was my brother's:

Alexander Weatere
16 November, 1684-
13 April, 1701
Beloved Son

The one to the right was my own, a complement to his in design:

Rachel Weatere
16 November, 1684-
13 April, 1701
Beloved Daughter

Sura wasn't entirely clear on what the graveyard area truly symbolized until she looked down at the stones and read them. While burial rituals were nothing like this in ancient Thrace, it was fairly easy to understand what the stones stood for.

"Good day," she said with a hint of a smile to the young woman when she met her eyes, giving a glance toward the graves.

"It is, isn't it?" I answered, not really looking at her.

Then Sura eyed the years closely, eyes squeezing for a moment in thought. She was still getting used to the time-frame concept that this place held.

"Those years were a long time before now? I didn't know this place had been here so long." Not that she knew anything about the history of Haurvatat. Nevermind that someone who looked so young was standing before graves that were so old.
