Valentine's Day, Gathering Post
Organizing the Valentine’s dance and auction had been simple, really. Much less work than Laura had originally anticipated. She found a poodle skirt for herself with a white blouse, even if she really had no idea what this was all about. It was something from Margaret’s world, but it seemed like a fashion fad that had at least been fun for a while. She dresses Laila and leaves her with Joslire to bring later, once the results of the auction have been given.
Decorations are done, nothing as extravagant as what Betty would have done, but the ballroom looks nice, and she directs the DJ on where to set up as she starts organizing the bids. The fact that over fifteen thousand dollars has been raised for the community is astounding, and she knows that this is something that will have to be done again. It’s being divided equally to the church, the school, the clinic, and other places that need the money or funding, but still. It’s a lot of money, and she decides she’ll have to see about starting some kind of village fun account for use in other things like social events or parties.
When six o’clock rolls around, and people have filed in, she walks up to the podium to begin announcing the winners.
“Thank you, all of you who bid. Together we’ve helped raise money for the village that will go a long way toward making our community a better place to live. Remember, volunteers, if you were bid on by someone, you will be subjected to their whims for the next twenty four hours. Let’s find out who went where, shall we?” With another smile, she starts reading off the names of the volunteers and who produced a winning bid with the total amount. When she’s done, she reminds everyone about the dance, and with that, the band begins to play and food and beverages are brought out.
