Masquerading as a man with a reason, my charade is the event of the season [ota]

Gabriel hated this place. Hated it. If being stuck here weren't enough, the moment he thought things might have been looking up, with his powers returning, the whole debacle with Kerai had effectively killed his mood. He'd spent so long being the Trickster. Only now, here, he had to face the accusing eyes of those he'd prayed upon. It wouldn't have bothered him so much if he could just spout a one liner, disappear to sip a Mojito in the Bahamas, and chuckle at how clever he was.

And he so seldom tricked people simply because they hurt his feelings, like Kerai had. But she had pushed his buttons in just the right way to make him to want her to hurt right back. It had been petty. Gabriel knew that. But he was still angry with her. She'd only gotten on his case because Val had come to him looking for a fight and Gabriel had given him one. Her anger at him had been unfounded and it had irked him.

Now, well, he'd given her a very solid reason to hate his guts. Not that he... cared or anything like that. No. Of course not. Why should he?

He stood on the snow covered beach looking out on the water and frowned. Being here also didn't allow him to distract himself with frivolous things. Wine, women, tricking people, partying...

It forced him to remember what brought him here. Murdered by his own brother. His absent Father. His family in tatters and looking to destroy the human race. And Christmas had come and gone. Yet another reminder of his old life and the family he'd walked away from. Gabriel shoved his hands into the pockets of his jacket-- which was ill-suited for the weather, but the cold didn't bother him. He looked up at the sky, shut his eyes, and sighed.
