If he were human, he would have gone mad by now. As it was, the Village posed a conundrum that he could not solve and that was not acceptable.
He had avoided most contact with the locals as best he could -- only coming away from his science to get supplies, meet occasionally with Kirk, or to wander the breadth of the village away from people. He was as alien here as he was anywhere else-- but he could not deny the truth.
The village was very close to making him irritated.
So he sought a distraction. A new puzzle. People -- if he could see why people accepted the village as home instead of prison, perhaps he might find a key to escaping it and returning to his home. After all, every other avenue of study had been exhausted -- so logic dictated that the path he had not taken would be the path that he must explore next, if he were to leave the labyrinth of learning that the village presented.
So he went to the cafe and watched people.
...no one ever said he was good at socializing, or even apporachable. This would, logically, make this difficult. But he was determined. Besides, there was coffee, and he could use a hot drink on a cold winter night alone.
