always running. [ota]

Juliet was running, she had been for the past thirty minutes and her legs were starting to protest. It wasn't anything like running through the jungle, away from the black smoke. It was nothing compared to running for her life, but she found herself going with the same heart pounding intensity, pony tail flying out behind her. She had no idea where she was going, she just had to get away from the past two weeks.

She'd spent most of it feeling like she was under water, walking around the apartment and not speaking much. She went to work, and for the most part kept it together. There was a new woman in the village four weeks away from having a baby. Great of the village to pull her out of her life for that. There was Draco with his cancer. Fantastic that the magical village didn't come with a way to fix that.

And then there was her.

Dead Juliet Ford.

She couldn't run fast enough, and she idly wondered if dead people even needed to breathe; could she die again? Why couldn't the village just let them be happy and stay happy? She and James had both known that one of them or both of them would leave one day, but now they knew for sure it was him, because back in the real world he was on a plane leaving that island and she was...

Finally stopping, she gasped for air. Turned out you did have to breathe when you were dead. Dropping to her knees, she realized she was on the beach, and through her panting she let out a bark of an ironic laugh. Of course she was on the fucking beach looking out at the ocean.

How appropriate.

Bending a bit at the waist, she closed her eyes and took deep shallow breaths, already dreading the walk back to the hotel.
